Prior Lake City Manager Finalists Selected

At Monday’s City Council work session, the City Council selected five finalists to move forward with the City Manager recruitment process. Forty-one candidates applied for the position. Frank Boyles, Prior Lake’s current City Manager, is due to retire on March 1, 2019. The city retained DDA Human Resources, Inc. to conduct the executive search.

The finalists include:

Joe Kohlmann currently serves as the City Administrator for the City of St. Francis, Minnesota, where he has served for three years. Prior to working in St. Francis, Mr. Kohlmann worked as the City Administrator for the City of Tonka Bay, Minnesota, for five years, and was an Administrative Intern for the City of St. Paul, Minnesota, for one year. Mr. Kohlmann has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Studies.

Melanie Mesko Lee is currently employed by the City of Hastings, Minnesota, as the City Administrator. Prior to serving in this role for over five years, she served as their Acting City Administrator for two months as well as the Assistant City Administrator for over 14 years. She has also worked as an Administrative Assistant/Intern for the City of Oak Park Heights, Minnesota, for two years. Ms. Mesko Lee holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Public Administration.

Michael Plante is currently the County Administrator for Wabasha County, Minnesota, where he has served in this role for over four years. Prior to becoming Administrator, he served as their Assistant County Attorney for nearly four years. Mr. Plante has also served as the Assistant County Attorney for Hubbard County, Minnesota. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies and a Juris Doctor degree.

Aaron Reeves currently serves as the City Administrator for the City of Cloquet, Minnesota, where he has been employed for one year. Prior to that. Mr. Reeves worked for the City of Rochester, Minnesota, for nearly four years where he held the titles of Assistant City Administrator I and City Clerk/Development Coordinator. He has also served as the City Administrator for the City of Cannon Falls, Minnesota, and the City Administrator/Clerk-Treasurer for the City of Kenyon, Minnesota, and has held other public sector positions. Mr. Reeves has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a master’s degree in Public Administration.

 Michael Sable is currently the Facility Services Department Director for Hennepin County, Minnesota, where he has served for three years. Prior to that, Mr. Sable was the Interim City Manager/Assistant City Manager for the City of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, for six years, and the Assistant to the City Manager- Flood Recovery for the City of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for nearly one year. Mr. Sable holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Business Administration degree.

Finalist interviews are scheduled for the first week of December with the goal of having the new City Manager in place by February 1, 2019.
